Niacinamide, should you be using it?
Niacinamide
Here at The Aesthetic Treatment Rooms, Benton, we love Niacinamide. Also referred to as Nicotinamide, Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3. Vitamin B3 is an essential nutrient for all cells of the body to function. It is a potent and calming antioxidant that can deliver multiple important benefits to the skin through helping to reduce transepidermal water loss and improve barrier function.
But what does this even mean???!
It is best for me to explain what the skin barrier is and why it is so important. The skin lipid barrier is the very top layer of cells of your skin, along with fatty acids and oils from your sebum production. The term skin barrier really refers to the skin’s ability to hold onto water and keep out allergens, irritants and microbes.
Why is it such a great ingredient?
We have a range of different products and treatments that contain Niacinamide from our excellent PCA Skin range. Here’s the 7 main reasons we love Niacinamide:
Great skin barrier function and hydration is critical for bright, even skin.
Can help to reduce age related yellowing and redness, and create an overall youthful appearance.
Protects skin from free radical damage and discoloration
Strengthen the skin lipid barrier and lock in moisture. This is especially important in older skin and for people who suffer with Rosacea and Psoriasis where this barrier is not working well.
Decrease redness and inflammation - this is super helpful if you suffer from inflammation from Acne or facial flushing due to Rosacea
Gives skin cells protection against damage from sunlight, this does NOT replace your SPF!!
Helps to improve dark pigmentation following sun damage or inflammation - Following use of Niacinamide, Melanin production is also usually reduced which helps to even out pigmentation
